Q: Where is Cumulative Update 4 for Exchange Server 2013?

A: Cumulative Update 4 for Exchange Server 2013 is effectively the Service Pack 1 release.

Microsoft’s servicing strategy for Exchange Server 2013 involves quarterly releases that are a full build of the product. Most of these are released as cumulative updates, however some are released as service packs, indicating a particular milestone in terms of features and support for Exchange Server 2013.

Specifically, CU4 is SP1, as announced at the time of CU3 being released:

Our next update for Exchange 2013, Cumulative Update 4, will be released as Exchange 2013 Service Pack 1. Customers who are accustomed to deploying Cumulative Updates should consider Exchange 2013 SP1 to be equivalent to CU4 and deploy as normal.

In other words, the releases (so far) for Exchange Server 2013 are:

  • Exchange Server 2013 RTM
  • Exchange Server 2013 CU1
  • Exchange Server 2013 CU2
  • Exchange Server 2013 CU3
  • Exchange Server 2013 CU4/Service Pack 1

We can expect the next release to be Exchange Server 2013 CU5, and can also expect future Service Pack milestones as well.

    Greetings,
Am setting up DAG and have two servers ready. Actually I have exchange already running on one and now want to add a second server and setup the DAG. I had Exchange Server 2013 CU4/Service Pack 1 on the first server and cant seem to find the ISO for this build. My question is that can I have exchange with a different build but same version join and work well in the DAG?

    regards,
    Caesar
