Block Copilot Access to Individual Office Documents

A new sensitivity label setting blocks access to content services for Office applications. In effect, this stops any feature that depends on the ability to send content to Microsoft for processing, including Copilot for Microsoft 365, DLP, text prediction, and so on. It's a precise item-level block that protects sensitive documents from being consumed and used by Copilot in the text that it generates.

Microsoft 365 Archive Could Help SharePoint Online Cope with Digital Debris

Microsoft 365 Archive is a solution to move SharePoint Online sites from hot to cold (less expensive) storage. It works well, and it comes with an added benefit in that archived sites are inaccessible to Copilot. In other words, you can make sure that Copilot doesn't process old and obsolete material by archiving sites that contain this type of content. Seems like a no-brainer.

Restricted SharePoint Search is The Legacy of Previous Microsoft Collaboration Strategies

Microsoft has been forced to introduce restricted SharePoint search to allow customers to deploy Copilot for Microsoft 365 projects without worrying that Copilot will find and reuse information from across the entire tenant. It's a sad legacy of previous Microsoft collaboration strategies, notably the decision to allow users to create groups without hindrance.

Microsoft Drops Copilot Restrictions

In a January 15 announcement, Microsoft says that they have removed the previous restrictions that applied to purchases of Copilot for Microsoft 365 licenses. Office 365 E3 and E5 tenants can now buy and deploy Copilot and the requirement to buy a minimum of 300 licenses is gone. Suddenly, 2024 has become much more interesting from an AI perspective for many Office 365 tenants.
